We got a phone call over the weekend that our oldest daughter had been taken to the ER. She was working (at the hospital) and had loss consciousness. They said that her heart rate and blood pressure were really high and that they were unable to communicate with her so they called a code (the emergency non-response team of the hospital) . She was immediately taken to the ER where they cut off her top, started oxygen, did an EKG, hooked her up to monitors, and then notified me. I was told that she was non-responsive and that they were working on her....that they couldn't tell me much more other than a young man by the name of Ryan (her boyfriend) was on his way there. Needless to say...I panicked...lost it... Ed said let's go....we jumped in the car and headed for Johnson City - a 5 hour drive from home that took us only 4 hours. I guess "Jesus had the wheel"...to get us there so quickly and safely. Ryan called me often during the ordeal and told me that she was ok...was talking with him...holding his hand...and they were just monitoring her....he kept me up to date as we tried to get there as quick as we could. The ER doc came in after monitoring her for several hours and said that he couldn't find anything that caused the episode other than her having just vertigo. They discharged her and told her to follow up with her personal Dr. We were so glad to see her! She was exhausted from all the ordeal - but seemed ok when we finally got there. We stayed there a couple of nights till we could get her checked out by her personal Dr. He too said that he could not figure out what caused the high blood pressure and heart rate and for her to pass out. He thought that the dizziness that preceded the episode may be related to an inner ear problem - so she is going in a few days to have tests to check that out. She is monitoring her heart with a holter monitor - hopefully we can find out what happened so that we can prevent the panic on all of our parts again.
